We had about 40 people show up and most of them had never even had anything to do with the movie. We got a standing ovation. I was blown away. The applause went on for almost 2 minutes. I guess that's good for a movie I wasn't really proud of. I guess I can be proud of it now. I'd like tothank all who attended and thanks to Jody & Barb from Walstroms Catering & The Redlands Community Center for letting us show the film there. I'd like to thank my parents, my daughter Jillian & my wife Wendy for all of their help getting set up for it. We started off with an interview for the local news, then the reception. I got a chance to talk with a few people about the film and future projects. Then we watched the movie beginning with some trailers from other films I've done, a music video then CW. It was great to hear the responses to the stuff that was written. They laughed when they were supposed to, reacted and got grossed out and...wow! The responses were great! Thanks again to everybody who worked on the film and thanks to Dave Fletcher from Luckster Productions, my wife and daughter Jackie for kicking me in the ass to get it done. On to the next chapter!

CHINA WHITE TO PREMIERE - MARCH 30TH

Hey guys. I have just finished the Audio on China White. That movie has been a thorn in my side for the last 2 years. I was not really happy with it for many reasons. Acting was my biggest complaint. My 2 Lead actors didn't hold up their end of the bargain. One had an ego problem (and the fact that his audition rocked, when we turned the cameras on...uuhhhhh) the other had a partying problem. But I would like to thank all who worked on it and those of you who did bust your ass to make sure that we made it thru the grueling 2 1/2 week shooting schedule.

Now here's the reason the film was finished: I got a call about a week ago from a guy in LA. He's a film distributor and he wanted to see a copy of CW. I told him it wasn't finiished but he wanted the rough cut and I sent him that. He said he really wants to see the final cut. He gave me a week to get the audio done. I had reservations about even doing this. Most people would say "Hey it's your shot...you can always make better films...sell this one!" But I really didn't want my first "sold" film be one I'm not really proud of. My wife Wendy and daughter Jackie were sooooo excited for the fact that someone wanted to even look at the movie (maybe buy it) that, that excitment caught onto me and made me excited. So I got on it and revisited my Plan 9 from Outer Space. It actually is better now than it was. I was able to edit a few more things out and tighter. I added some filters to some of the scenes to get them to look a bit different (more like I wanted them...thanks Andrew Kramer @ Video Copilot) and took away some old sound fx and added some new ones. I looked back into some of the music that Gary Brown had done and added that to the movie. It improved the scenes that didn't have it originally. So it's still not great but WAY better than it was. So look for it on Netflix soon. I will let you know when & if it gets bought.

Thanks again to all who helped me on the 3 year journey through movie making hell!!!

"SILENCE" - THAT'S A WRAP!

Well where do I start? Let's start with last Thursday...

THURSDAY, JANUARY 15TH, 2010: I get a phone call at about 11:30am from the people who said we could shoot part of our movie at 1600 Ute Ave. They had decided (at that moment...2 days before shooting) that they did not want us shooting our movie in the building. Or outside of the building or anywhere near the building. SO, after pitching a bit of a shit-fit, I yhad to decide whether to find another location or cancel shooting. Wasn't going to do the latter, so I started looking for another location. I had a couple of suggestions from people but the locations didn't work. When I wrote the script I had that hallway in mind and nothing else was going to work. So I made a decision to rewrite the first 3 pages of the script. Thus eliminating small roles and the need for extras. Sorry to those of you who were going to show up. So instead of spending the day getting last minute stuff done for shooting, I sopent the next 5 hours doing rewrites. In the end, it wound up being better than the original. Plus a lot more believable. Now iut's getting towards the time I have to go to the airport to pick up our actress, Whitnie Mauney. I guess we got there just a hair bit too late (plane had landed) and she was waiting for us. Us meaning Greg Gerry and myself. Greg was shooting the Behind the Scenes video for us. So we got Whitnie and headed off to Walmart to go wardrobe. Whitnie found ewverything we needed and we got out of there. It's about 11pm at this point. Got back to the house, got our actress fed and got to bed.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 15TH, 2010: Got up about 8:30am, got some breakfast and got to work. I had Whitnie and my wife Wendy (who played the doctor) get into rehersing for Saturday. WOW! Both of them killed it! WHitnie was 1000 times better than I thought she would be and Wendy knocked it out of the ballpark. So after about 3 hours of rehersal we took off to the store to get done what didn't get done the day before. Got craft services food, and the food for main meals. I may not have much money to shoot the movie but I make sure that I feed the crew. So we got back to house and started getting ready for Saturday. Got some stuff cleaned up...kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedroom.

Got to bed about 10:30pm for a 9am call time.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 16TH, 2010: SHOOT DAY #1!!! Got started a little slow trying to get everyone up to speed. Pretty much the whole crew had never shot a film but they stepped up quickly. We got rolling on the beginning for the movie with Whitnie and Wendy's scenes. Just incredible. I was so amazed on how well things went with them. It just got better and better with every take. The camera crew, Seth Schaeffer and Chris Nazarenas, were doing an excellent job on the camera work. It was nice to be able to just be the Director and not have to worry about running a camera. The video wa just killer. My daughter Brianne showed up and we shot the scene with KATELYLN & HER DAD (yes I am in the movie) outside. COLD COLD COLD!!! Brianne took some direction from our actresses and killed it. After that we moved on to the scenes with phone calls and the ending of the movie. Ryan Cook played the cop in the film and really knocked it out of the park. We did my death scene. Came back into the house and shot a few insert shots and called it a day.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 17TH, 2010: Call time was 10am...got an even slower start today. I know why though. We were going to shoot the beginnings of a rape scene. We walked through the blocking and made sure that no one was going to get hurt with the punches and throwing around. Got ready to shoot, got the camera angles worked out, and then what happened next was unexpected...we shot the first part when the rapist busts in the door and we all got sick to our stomachs. We did 2 takes and decided we could not go any further. We reblocked everything and shot just closeups...we got the point across and we felt better about it. We then moved on to the bathroom scene. That took awhile because of the logistics of the samll confined space, but it came out great. Then we moved back into the living room and the kitchen to get the meat of the 2nd act done. Wound up there with more excellent camera work and outstanding acting by Whitnie. We went back outside at dusk to get the attack scene done. That took longer than expected because we wanted to make sure no one got hurt (sharp object involved) then went back inside to get the finale done. We finished shootin at about 1am. Then we hung out and did interviews for the Behind the Scenes video until about 4am...crap am I tired. So we got trough it and I am very happy with the results. Thanks to everyone who helped: Seth, Chris, Jackie, Nathaniel, Steve-O, Dave, Greg, Brianne, Wendy, TJ and Whitnie! Look for bits and pieces on my site as we get it edited. That's a wrap on "SILENCE"!!!

"SILENCE" - GETTIN' DOWN TO THE WIRE

Okay so here we go. WOW! It's just 2 weeks before principal photography starts. I am really excited about this project. It's the first in a long time that I can actually concentrate on Directing and not have to worry about running a camera. I have put that responsibility into the hand of Seth Schaffer from Hoptocopter Films. Check out his work at his site located in the links section of my site.

My actor is Whitnie Mauney. She comes from Payette, Idaho. She was the only actress that answered a casting call for this part and am I glad. She is perfect! She will be flying in on January 14th to start rehersing. Her audition tape sold me big time. Instead of setting the camera up and standing in front of it and reading, she had a Director she had worked with in the past help her shoot the actual scene from the sides I presented to her and WOW! She did a hell of a job. I was very very impressed. So much that I used that audtion tape to create the teaser trailer for the film. So we will keep you updated and let you know what is up.
